This charming hamlet gives visitors a chance to relax as they stroll the compact downtown's boutiques, antiques stores, and restaurants. This one-time state capital (1853-54) and location of the first Army post on the West Coast is dotted with historic sites and is a haven for the creative set — about 500 artists make Benicia their home.
Fingerstyle & Groove
Adam Rafferty is one of the world's most popular online guitar teachers. His guitar videos on YouTube have been viewed over 17 million times and Adam's fingerstyle guitar versions of songs ranging from the Great American Songbook and The Beatles to Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson have helped him build a strong reputation as a player and teacher.

He's performed at many prestigious concerts and festivals worldwide including in the USA, Austria, Germany, Italy, Singapore, Serbia, Russia, Thailand, Kazakstan, Scotland, and Bermuda. Meanwhile as a teacher he has published 5 instructional DVDS, 2 books and is currently busy with his own online school.

“The first time I heard the guitar I was still in my mother’s womb.” says Adam Rafferty. Adam’s father bought a Martin D-28 guitar to serenade his expecting wife....and the sounds of the guitar surely found their way into Adam’s soul.

Adam was born and raised just south of Harlem, started performing fingerstyle blues guitar at age 6, played in a hard rock band at 12, was ripped off by a club owner on his first gig at 15, studied classical guitar at 16, and by 18 he was a rapper on a gold record overseas. By age 20 he was playing as a jazz guitarist in Harlem with Hammond B3 organist Jimmy "Preacher" Robbins, who regularly threatened customers with a 10 inch kitchen knife. In his “Big Apple” jazz guitar period, Adam was a first call jazz guitar player in New York City for world class musicians like Dr. Lonnie Smith (Hammond B3 Organ Legend), the Dizzy Gillespie Big Band (led by Jimmy Owens), Bob Cranshaw (Bassist for Saturday Night Live and Sonny Rollins), Bennie Wallace, Alvin Queen (drummer for Oscar Peterson), and he's also played informally with George Benson, Gloria Lynn, Buster Williams, Lou Donaldson, Frank Wess and tap dancer Gregory Hines - to name a few. 2006 his musical life changed when he fell in love again with solo fingerstyle acoustic guitar. The electric guitar has not seen daylight since then. In just a few years time, he become a YouTube guitar sensation, racking up over 17 million views and over 50,000 subscribers to his channel. His fusion of acoustic fingerstyle with jazz and funk "finesse" make him stand out from many of the standard fingerstyle guitar pickers.
Fingerstyle and Percussive Guitar

D'Agostino, a native of Italy, has been hailed as “a guitarist's guitarist” by Acoustic Guitar magazine as well as “a giant of the acoustic guitar” (San Diego Reader), and holds many top guitar awards - even his Peppino D'Agostino Seagull Signature Guitar model was ranked in June 2014 as one of the 10 best signature guitars by Guitar Player Magazine.

D’Agostino has performed in more than 31 countries; been featured at prestigious international music festivals, and frequently plays with prominent artists around the world, including Tommy Emmanuel, Leo Kottke, Martin Taylor, and Eric Johnson. His 18 recordings include releases on Favored Nations, Mesa/Bluemoon, Acoustic Music Records, and other labels.

When not performing D’Agostino also enjoys teaching. He has made various teaching videos, has individual students, and through the years has been a guest instructor at various guitar programs such as Creative Vacances in La Moreau, France, Acoustic Alaska Guitar Camp, Swannanoa Gathering, and Guitar Workshop Plus. Truefire, an online instruction company, has released two courses in which D’Agostino explains his influential guitar techniques and approach to composition. One thing is true – Peppino is always thinking guitar.

“Adam is a clear and precise teacher. He tells you where to put your fingers and why - whether for a specific musical effect he is trying to achieve, to set up an subsequent passage, or just to be able to fit all the parts in. There is always a logical reason for the fingering, and I find that this makes it easier to learn the arrangements.”
- Dr. Dave Walker
"He's a masterful teacher, just stick with the programme and you too could be impressing your friends pronto!"
- Emrys Baird
"I want to thank you for one of the greatest gifts I've ever gotten. The opportunity to learn and play your arrangements with your encouragement and guidance. I am very grateful for your insight to music. I've gone from Cowboy, Campfire chords when I was 9, to Classical, to your music. I feel like I'm really playing guitar the way I always wanted to play. It's a lot of work but very much worth it. The 'WOW' factor."
Bill Lingelbaugh
Aaron Carlino
"Every single thing you said really helped, and things started coming together immediately. I can’t believe what improvement I’m seeing just from you pointing out a few screws to turn. It’s really starting to have that signature Adam Rafferty sound always manages to elude me. I love it!"
Alan Passey
"The process was a perfect launch pad for me as I had become tired and a
little lazy with my guitar playing. I dug in for more and became charged not only by the inspiration of learning new material but also new techniques."
Bob Brounley
"I have been following Adam Rafferty’s videos, DVD lessons and blogs online for several years now. He is an exceptional performer and teacher and I have found that applying many of his techniques has improved my playing and my confidence immensely."
Dale Rates
"After many years of playing guitar, I found myself in a creative funk and finally decided that lessons of some kind were badly needed. Adam Rafferty caught my eye not only for his precise skills, but for the sheer and natural joy that he exhibits from playing."
